MONTESSORI RISING

The Future of Education

As we contemplate how to educate the next generation, we consider the skills students need to be prepared for careers in the 21st century – knowing they are different from what was needed decades ago... We may not know the questions that lie in our future, but we know our children will be prepared to answer them.
— Abbie Miller, former Gladwyne Montessori Head of School

With increasing debate about education, parents are looking for a better option than outdated curriculum and standardized testing. The documentary film “Montessori Rising” shines a light on how Montessori education works to create intellectually curious and independent young problem solvers.

The film includes comments from 21st century education and innovation experts including Tony WagnerSir Ken Robinson, and Dr. Steve Hughes as it examines how Montessori education prepares children to succeed in our fast paced, ever-evolving 21st Century economy.

The Montessori Method

Education should no longer be mostly imparting knowledge, but must take a new path, seeking the release of human potentials.
— Dr. Maria Montessori

The Montessori educational method was developed by Italian physician Maria Montessori based on a premise that all children have an innate desire to learn. Montessori methods nurture the whole child. Montessorians teach children how to succeed by developing their emotional, physical, and social functioning as they each integrally relate to academic performance and intellectual growth.

The Filmmaker

Montessori education is rapidly becoming a model for public and private school educators around the world as more traditional educational methods fail. In the Montessori classroom there is an emphasis on process, creative thinking and intrinsic motivation—these are the building blocks for innovation.
